Description
Native of Asia, Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora cineoliferum) grows on the Island of Madagascar where it is also named Camphor Malgache. Its essential oil is obtained from distilling its leaves, which smell a lot like camphor. Well known for its powerful antiviral and its natural antiseptic qualities, Ravintsara essential oil is reputed to prevent viruses from spreading while strengthening the immune system. Rich in cineole, it acts as relaxant on inflammation and on the nervous system due to its concentration in terpene.
Ravensara holds a place in the traditional medicine system of Madagascar and has been in use for centuries as a tonic Ravintsara essential oil is used in aromatherapy to temporarily relieve challenges related to lungs
Not to confuse Ravintsara with Ravensare (Ravensara Aromatica), a tree sadly on the road to extinction that produces 2 essential oils (depending whether the leaves or the bark is used), which properties differ from those of the Ravintsara tree.
