HELICHRYSUM GYMNOCEPHALUM (DC.) H. Humb - Helicryse / STRAW FLOWER / IMMORTELLE
Family Asteraceae. 
Uses: flowering herb, hydro distillation. Madagascar. It is a highly volatile oil, bright colored green or green-yellow color. Optical Rotation 2 ° 55. Density 0913. Refractive index 1467 (water 1:33). Not soluble in water, or in ethanol and oil.
Native to Madagascar, very aromatic. Grows at an altitude of 800 - 2200 meters in the central highlands and central eastern hills of Madagascar. In sun or partial shade. Can tolerate drought and to fire. Has like well-drained sandy or loam soils. Called on Madagascar Rambiazina or Rambazine. An oil is also produced by steam distillation of the flowering tops.
It is a short shrub-like tree with large leaves that were cooked in folk medicine to be used in case of fever.Crushed and mixed with fat, they were used against rheumatism and gout.
In Madagascar, a growing number of Helichrysum species H. gymnocephalum 1.8-cineol 59.7% - H. bracteiferum 1.8-cineol 27.3% - H. selaginifolium b-pinene 38.2% - H. cordifolium (E) -caryophylleen 55.6% - H. faradifani 34.6% - H. hypnoides 34%.

Helichrysum Gymnocephalum, grows in South Africa or Madagascar, it has a
camphorous aroma similar with Eucalyptus, and has a high content of cineole,
which provides support for the respiratory system. It creates a hostile environment for cold and flu.
