Holiday Stress: A 60-Second Reset Between Tasks

Sometimes the hardest part of a busy holiday day isn’t the big dinner or the crowded store. It’s walking in the door and realizing the next person, task, or decision is already waiting for you.

Maybe you’ve just come home with groceries, finished a long shift, or dropped someone off. Your coat is still on, your hands are full, and your mind is already running through what needs to happen next.

That in-between moment rarely makes it onto the calendar. But it can be a useful place to pause—not for a perfect meditation or a new routine, just a small reset before you move into the next part of the day.

Try the doorway reset

Before you step fully into the next task, take about a minute. You can do this at your front door, in the car before you go inside, or at any natural stopping point.

1. Set something down. Put down your keys, bag, or phone. Let one physical thing be finished for the moment.

2. Notice where you are. Feel your feet on the floor. Look around and name one thing you see. Let your shoulders soften if they’re comfortable doing so.

3. Choose one next step. Ask yourself, “What needs my attention first?” Pick just that—not the whole evening at once.

The point isn’t to make every responsibility disappear or to force yourself to feel calm. It’s to give the previous part of your day a clear ending before you begin the next one.

Let a familiar aroma mark the pause

If you already enjoy aromatherapy, a familiar scent can be one cue in your reset. Relax and Release is a lavender-free E7 blend for a quiet aromatic pause. It is for external use; follow the product directions for application or inhalation.

For the evening, Kathy’s Sleep Easy can be part of a familiar wind-down routine. Think of it as one gentle signal that the day is changing pace—not a promise that you’ll fall asleep or stay asleep.

Keep it simple enough to repeat

You don’t need a product—or a special setting—for this to count. The pause itself is useful. Choose a cue that fits your day, and leave it out when it doesn’t.

When the day has no quiet space

Some days really are crowded from beginning to end. If a full minute feels unrealistic, make the pause smaller: one slower exhale before you open the door, a sip of water before you answer the next message, or a moment to put both feet on the floor before starting dinner.

And if you can, look for one expectation to simplify, share, or let go. A meaningful holiday doesn’t depend on doing every task yourself or making every detail perfect.

Holiday stress support: quick answers

What is the doorway reset?

It’s a brief pause between responsibilities: set something down, notice your surroundings, and choose one next step.

How long does a transition reset take?

About a minute is enough to try it. You can make it shorter or longer to fit the moment.

Can I include essential oils?

Yes, if aromatherapy is already something you enjoy. Follow the product directions, use blends externally as directed, and discontinue use if sensitivity occurs.
