Hot Oil Hair Treatment

Hot Oil Hair Treatment

This hot oil hair treatment will make your hair look healthy and shiny with just two natural ingredients. It is especially good for anyone looking to increase their hair growth as well.

Castor oil is high in vitamin E, omega 6 and 9 fatty acids as well as other minerals and proteins making it nourishing for your scalp. It’s ricinoleic acid content increases circulation to the scalp which stimulates hair growth and can prevent or remedy hair loss. I’ve read of people experiencing as much as a 3-5 times increase in hair growth from using castor oil. Honey is also a great ingredient for hair health and growth. Because it is emollient, honey conditions your hair and scalp. It also helps your hair follicles retain moisture which strengthens them and prevents hair loss. Both these ingredients are antibacterial keeping your head healthy.

Here is the recipe for the hot oil hair treatment.

Hot Oil Hair Treatment

1/4 c castor oil
1 tbsp honey

Pour oil into a heat safe bowl or small pot.
Add honey and stir well.
Microwave on high until warm, approx 20 seconds, or warm slowly over low heat with a double boiler (or small pot in a bigger pot of water).

To use, apply the mixture to dry hair and massage into hair and scalp for a few minutes.
Your hair length and thickness may alter how much you need to use.
Wrap hair in a towel or put on a shower cap for at least 30 minutes.
Rinse and shampoo. Possibly shampoo again if it still feels overly greasy.

I was really nervous my first time using this hot oil hair treatment. I already find my hair shows it’s greasiness easily due to being thin, so the oil made me nervous and honey just seemed crazy. However, it turned out great! After applying, rinsing, and shampooing, I noticed my hair was easier to comb through than usual when wet. Then once it dried, I was so pleased. My hair was  wonderfully soft and shiny. It didn’t tangle as much, and there were less flyaways – the bane of my hair-existence. I’m interested in seeing if using it on a regularly basis (though I would think no more than once a week to avoid an oily scalp) will increase my hair growth.

What do you use to keep your hair healthy and looking good?
