ROSE ( Russia)
ROSA DAMASCENA

Botanical Name: Rosa damascene

Plant Part: Flowers

Extraction Method: Solvent Extraction

Origin: Bulgaria

Description: The rose is one of the worlds best known flowers - stunning and exotic in both visual appearance and aroma.

Color: Golden to amber resin to solid.

Common Uses: Rose (Bulgaria) Absolute is a very common oil in the perfume and aromatic industry. Aromatherapists also credit it with being an exotic aphrodisiac, an emollient in skin care products, and a balancer of the spirit.

Consistency: Viscous

Note: Middle

Strength of Aroma: Strong

Blends well with: Rose (Bulgaria) Absolute generally blends well with all oils, though it works particularly well with BergamotChamomile German,Chamomile RomanClary SageGeraniumMelissaRosewoodSandalwood, and Ylang-ylang.

Aromatic Scent: Rose (Bulgaria) Absolute has a very complex, sweet floral scent. Its reputation of being a must ingredient in perfumes is well deserved.

History: Bulgaria has over a 300 year tradition in essential rose oil distillation. Approximately 4000 kilograms of petals are required to produce 1 kilogram of pure rose oil. Its exotic nature and value were appreciated in ancient times by the Greeks, Chinese, Indians, Persians and Romans. All documentation indicates that their medical applications of the essential oil were identical to those that exist today.

Cautions: It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - becomes lost

Absolutes

What is it?
An absolute is the most expensive ingredient in perfumery. Similar to an essential oil,
but the method of extraction is different, and the end result is a product that is more
concentrated.

How does work?

Absolutes are not steam-distilled or cold-pressed as are most essential oils; they are
solvent extracted at a low temperature which keeps the delicate aromatics intact. The
scent of some flowers cannot survive a steam-distillation, so must be solvent extracted;
examples are Jasmine and Mimosa. Roses and Orange Blossoms can, but an absolute
give a true scent of the original flower.

This process extracts the aromatic compounds from the plant matter or fatty pastes
used (enfleurage), usually blossoms in from which very little oil is available. The solution
is then filtered, followed by a distillation process which concentrates the solution, which
is then put into a food grade solvent like hexane. When the solvent evaporates, the
absolute is what is left behind. Absolutes may contain trace elements of the solvent at
the end of the process.

Recipe:
This recipe is fragrant, inviting, and classic - so it outlives any particular time period of
popularity. And because it is made with natural aromatics, it will not trigger allergies so
often as synthetic fragrances do.
